The thesis is devoted to the obtaining of tin dioxide-based materials and studies of their structure and physical properties. The literature review of the thesis contains information on properties (including gas sensing and thermoelectric properties) and applications of SnO2, synthesis methods of nanostructured materials, chemoresistive materials and factors that affects their properties, thermoelectric effects and methods to improve thermoelectric properties of the material, as well as sintering processes and methods used for sintering of difficult to sinter materials (like SnO2). Experimental part of the Doctoral Thesis contains two subsections. The first one is dedicated to the synthesis of tin dioxide nano/micro structures by hydrothermal synthesis method and characterization of the structure and gas sensing properties of the obtained materials. During the study, the effect of different synthesis parameters were evaluated on the formation of SnO2 nano/micro structures, as well as gas sensing towards ethanol vapour was characterized. The second subsection of the thesis experimental part was dedicated to obtaining of SnO2 and Sb (1 to 5 mole%) doped SnO2 by spark plasma sintering method and characterization of the structure and thermoelectric properties of the obtained materials. During the study the effect of Sb content and sintering temperature on the obtained ceramic structure as well as thermal and electrical conductvity was evaluated. Additionally, the effect of annealing under air on structure and thermoelectrical properties of the material were characterized. The Doctoral Thesis is written in Latvian language, is 121 pages long and contains 55 illustrations, 11 tables, 39 equations and 156 literature references.
