Three sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) were simultaneously operated to investigate the effect of phosphorus (P) removal from wastewater. The first reactor R1 was used as a “control”, biological process without chemical precipitation; R2 was operated with aluminium sulphate coagulant; and R3 was run with granular activated carbon (GAC). Results showed that the reactor R2 had better P removal efficiency compared with R1 and R3. The maximum P removal efficiency in R2 was 92%, which was higher than 50% of R1 and 49% of R3.
