After World War II, the city of Priekule was restored preserving the market at the bus station, next to the railway passenger station, but the new city center began to develop at the crossroads – now at the intersection of modern Galvenā, Aizputes and Liepajas Streets, near the village of Saulaine where individual houses were built. On the site of the former manor, an education center was developed. Next to it the administrative center of the Priekule state farm was created. In the eastern part of the city, a block of high-rise apartment buildings for the Soviet army military persons was created. Near the railway station and bus station, the shopping center was preserved. The administrative center of the city was created at the crossroads, and the state farm village was transformed into a low-rise residential quarter. Particular attention was paid to preserving the originality of the old part of the city – the former estate center, where the most important architectural objects of the city – the Swedish Gate and the Lutheran Church – were restored. The main objective of the study: to analyze the impact of cultural heritage on the identity of a polycentric city in the context of functional changes.
