How to Learn about Knowledge Management Situation in Latvian Enterprises

Nowadays Knowledge Management is recognized as an essential that helps to increase enterprise efficiency and competitiveness. Large and small enterprises around the world introduce Knowledge Management solutions into organization processes to achieve competitive advantage. Many research projects are aimed to explore knowledge management situation in different countries, such as Canada, Finland and Australia. Unfortunately, there are no statistical data about Knowledge Management situation in Latvia. The paper presents a way that allowed to create a method to gather information about Knowledge Management aspects in Latvian enterprises. The method contains a set of questions that are specifically designed to collect information about enterprise work environment, such as enterprise infrastructure, people and information technologies. Developed questionnaire is aimed to reveal and describe Knowledge Management conditions and possibilities in a particular organization. Questionnaire includes questions about enterprise structure, strategy, business processes, corporate culture, human resource management and information systems. Primary data about current Knowledge Management situation in Latvia were collected by conducting a survey in 80 small and medium sized Latvian enterprises.
