Pyrimidine scaffold is found in many biologically active compounds such as antiviral, antimicrobial and anticancer drugs. Therefore modifications of pyrimidine moiety and new synthesis methods toward modified pyrimidines are continuously developing. Azido substituted pyrimidines undergo dynamic azido-tetrazolo tautomerism when dissolved in organic solvents. By selection of appropriate solvent the equilibrium can be shifted towards one tautomer. Thus reactivity and product outcome can be changed by switching between different solvents. Herein we examine azido-tetrazolo equilibrium in 2,4-diazidopyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines and reactivity thereof.
