For groundwater in Latvia, the iron (Fe) content may reach 4 mg/l that considerably exceeds the standard value 0.2 mg/l allowed for drinking water. Iron removal from groundwater is necessary. In Latvia, rather rarely, the environment friendly in situ method is used for iron removal within aquifer where water enriched with oxygen (O2) is injected. Then geochemical reaction results in removal of dissolved iron from groundwater. In order to investigate this process, its computer simulation was carried out. The program GROUNDWATER VISTAS was applied. The model contained the MODFLOW system (model of groundwater flows) and RT3D module (simulation of chemical reactions).
