Ekonomists Etjens Laspeiress (1834-1913) dzimis Vācijā, taču strādājis ne tikai Heidelbergas, Bāzeles, Gīsenes universitatēs un Karlsrūes Politehnikumā, bet arī Baltijā. Rīgas Politehnikumā viņš izveidoja Tirdzniecības nodaļu un strādāja par profesoru (1866-1869), pēc tam darbojās Tartu universitātē (1869-1873). Rakstā atklātas viņa darbība gan augstskolās, gan mazāk zināmā sabiedriskā darbība dažādās biedrībās.
