The ideology of environmental protection is comparatively new in Latvia and is based on the concept that it is necessary to turn from the protection of separate natural elements and economical use of resources to an overall protection of ecosystems, securing the quality of human life environment, and promoting environmental policy which provides lasting and balanced development. The authors review existing research and discuss the practical importance of obtained results and the necessity to introduce them in professional education. This paper presents an analysis of economic processes in modern Latvia through explaining the reasons for recent rapid economic growth and its implications for other macroeconomic processes.
