Thanks to computer technologies and scanning equipment there is a more and more rapid development in anthropometry and garment 3D designing. Currently the most important tasks of the clothing industry are the ones for improving the first and basic stage of designing process. This is the stage of model appearance and its patterns elaboration. In this stage the high quality of the future item is founded and it ought to be automated to compete successfully on the world market. Nowadays 3D CAD system development is the one of main processes in garment designing field. There are possibilities to gain good results from virtual trying on in several systems (Optitex, Lectra, Assyst a.o.). These systems allow estimate the fitting of clothes virtually. The CAD system Staprim is mentioned to create 3D garment surface according mannequins surface with pattern peaces gaining after that. The estimation of principles of this system is significant and important for basic 3D designing theory. During study process are planned several course papers. Working for these papers, students show their abilities mostly in the concrete subject or the group of subjects. The students involved in 3D CAD system teaching are preparing several laboratory papers and do their common tasks and individual projects. These tasks and projects include assessment of 3D CAD systems accessible in CAD/CAM laboratory as well as comparison of the systems. Each academic year the changes caused by different technology changes create a necessity to make adjustments in the educational process. The development of the new models and prototypes, and its role in the educational process is discussed, too.
