The ability of enterprise to provide services to and accept services from other enterprises, and to use the services so exchanged to enable them to operate effectively together is the critical issue for today’s business. The highly competitive business environment and geographical separation of enterprises makes essential collaboration in several business networks for the success of the entire supply chain. The dynamic and stochastic nature of enterprises operation requires elaboration of an advanced, high-performance operational computing technology aimed to apply the inter-enterprise interoperability. Simulation is considered as one of the main information technologies able to manage supply chain effective operation in a complex environment. Simulation technology capabilities in supporting inter-enterprise interoperability and in developing advanced operational concepts are important area of research at the moment. Simulation can be used to manage interaction among enterprises efficiently and to support optimisation, visualisation and analysis of the possible scenarios for a design of interoperable framework. The paper provides the analysis of the simulation technology implementation efficiency from the both technical and functional terms within the supply chain management domain. The distributed simulation as a method for supply chain interoperable infrastructure design through the HLA is proposed. From the other hand, simulation is used to test and to evaluate quantitatively benefits of interoperability concept implementation within the entire supply chain that is essential from the interoperability costs and decision making point of view. The discrete-event simulation-based experimental analysis is performed in order to illustrate centralised information sharing strategy advantages in multi-echelon supply chain.
