The Aspects of Implementation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Ice

Last winter 2010-2011 demonstrated heavy icing conditions in Baltic Sea, Riga Bay and, particularly, in proximity of Riga Port, where Maritime Traffic was paralyzed for some period of time. Scarce resources of icebreakers in conditions of harsh winter demands special techniques, arrangements and procedures to optimize effective help for ships breaking through ice fields. Any time delays due to impenetrable iced Sea, bring huge financial loses, but modern technologies allows to seek alternatives and innovations for better Maritime Lines management within ice conditions. Such a provisional innovation is the implementation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for ice situational awareness on Maritime Fairways. Baltic States already have accumulated practical experience in production of unmanned aircraft. Authors try to define some aspects of future use of
