The major part of domestic waste collected from Latvian households is buried on disposal sites and landfills without recycling; according to data of Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia the amount of waste is 600,000-700,000 tonnes per year. Inhabitants of some municipalities have an opportunity to sort waste – in waste collecting places there are marked containers for paper, PET, and glass, while textile waste are not included. That is one of the reasons why precise information on produced textile waste amount in Latvia is unavailable. It is estimated textile waste are 4% of total solid domestic waste amount. According to these data, each year 28-32 thousand tonnes of textile waste are placed in waste landfills in Latvia without recycling. It is estimated that each year 13,32 kg of textile waste are produced per capita. Results on textile waste amount show the necessity to separate textile waste collecting, re-usage, and recycling.
