In this paper a development of 3D image transfer protocol is shown. Authors have chosen DisplayPort 1.2 as video transfer standard because it offers high bandwidth and flexible structure. XGA size images with depth layers are proposed as custom 3D imaging transfer protocol that uses Link Layer and PHY Layer of DisplayPort 1.2 standard to transfer such 3D images. Two test systems are developed and present, with architecture explanations. Xilinx development tool ISE 14.1 and boards ML605 and XM104 have been used for design. Successful tests have been carried out with the test systems that show that DisplayPort Link Layer and PHY Layer can be used as 3D image transfer protocol.
