Renewable Hemp Fibre Insulation Materials
Journal of Biobased Materials and Bioenergy 2012
Līga Freivalde, Silvija Kukle, Stephen Russell

The production and properties of hemp fibres assembled by carding and hydroentangling are reported. Two varieties of hemp fibres were evaluated: a local dioecious variety known as Purini and an ES registered monoecious industrial hemp variety known as Bialobrzeskie grown in the Vilani district of Latvia. The samples of hydroentangled hemps were characterised to determine their dimensional properties, water vapour transmission, pore size distribution, thermal resistance and thermal conductivity in order to assess their suitability as alternative insulation materials. The influence of hemp variety on samples properties was also evaluated.
