Integration of Large-Scale Solar Thermal Technologies in District Heating Networks
5th International Conference “Environmental Science and Education in Latvia and Europe: Resources and Biodiversity”: Conference Proceedings 2012
Lelde Timma, Dagnija Blumberga

Climate technologies will play a major role in reaching a level of sustainable energy consumption. It is estimated that solar thermal energy technologies have one of the highest annual energy yield per m2 of land area used in Northern Europe. Since solar energy is for free – in the market when prices for energy resources are continuously fluctuating but in long term growing, – solar thermal energy technologies became more and more competitive with conventional heat supply solutions. The aim of the research is to estimate feasibility of solar district heating systems in Latvia.
