There is a plenty of different kinds of control methods and approaches for DC-DC converters. This study was focused on the search for the most appropriate control strategy for dimmable LED driver. Predictive current programmed control seems to be such a control strategy. However, the high computational resources necessary for implementation as well as high price of such a control system prevents it from utilization in low and medium power devices. Proposed control system also uses the model of the converter to calculate necessary duty cycle at desired output power from several input parameters: input and output voltage of the converter as well as output current. These signals are relatively slowly changeable, that allows reducing the requirements for analog-to-digital converter conversion speed. However, the high computational resources also are required for this control method. Due to the problems encountered in the calculations the simplified version of the converter was considered in this article. The results of simulation for simplified version are given at the end of this article. Further evaluation of the proposed control method is necessary in order to identify potential drawbacks and to make proper evaluation and comparison with existing methods.
