The study allowed to conclude that 'manipulation; is connected not only with the professional skill of the translator, his/her language proficiency and background knowledge in the field, but to a large extent - how creative the translator is (his/her originality, flexibility, fluency of ideas, the practical value of the product/result)). Here the complex issue of professionalism comes in (strategic thinking, perceiving the .wholeness of the source text in its unity ("gestalt approach") and levels, decoding of its meaning and sense, deep understanding of the semantic and linguistic context. The conceptual standpoint in the present article is that only the type of manipulation iwhich could be termed the positive or unavoidable manipulation is permiissible and ensure the quality of technical translation in the sense that it would reduce the reader; s interpretation effort involved.
