Rasa Balvočiūtė

The paper presents a research which aims to estimate the changes in income inequality in the EU countries in the years 2005 – 2011 and to assess Lithuania’s situation in the context of these changes. The following methods were used in the study: Lorenz curve, GINI coefficient, Theil entropy measure and Hoover (Robin Hood) index. The survey results revealed that in the EU countries in 2011 comparing with 2005 citizen income inequality distribution changed significantly. Income inequality disparity between the EU countries declined, i.e. in this respect, they have become increasingly homogeneous.
