Biomass ash, especially, wood ash has a high degree of alkalinity. As the wood ash has an alkaline environment and similarities to zeolites structure, it may be used in the electrolysis process as a solid electrocatalyst to reduce or replace chemical catalysts. Further research needed to prove the theory.
