Present studies of the cyclisation of 1,3-indandione and benzo[b]thiophen-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide with hexamethylenetetramine and ammonium acetate in acidic medium. Bridged polycyclic diazocine derivatives were obtained instead of expected unsubstituted 2-spiroderivatives.
