Design Considerations of a Battery Pack – DC Grid Interface Converter
2015 IEEE 5th International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives (POWERENG): Proceedings 2015
Kristaps Vītols

This paper discusses the design of an interface converter that is used to connect a battery pack to a DC grid. A description of the battery pack and a previously developed battery management system with cell balancing is given. Here the battery management system plays a significant role since it provides information for the interface converter operation. The DC grid parameters and battery operational limits are used to extract the operational modes required for successful interface converter operation. The converter circuit and implementation is discussed. Additionally the control commands of the interface converter are considered since the converter is a part of a larger system with dedicated master control block that supervises the operation of all grid connected devices.
