Current paper describes design, prototyping and experimental verification of wood based sandwich panels with plywood surfaces and corrugated GF/PP core. As one of the main objectives of EC 7th framework project MAPICC 3D is development of wood and plastic combined composite panels in one manufacturing step. Current generation of panel prototypes has been made by simplified approach of covering aluminium bars with glass fibre/polypropylene fabric and using vacuum pressure to compress plywood surfaces to core. Non-destructive evaluation (NDE) by means of modal analysis has been applied to determine elastic properties and difference in mode shapes between specimens. Experimental flexural tests demonstrates that average modulus of elasticity for 59 thick mm panels is 5.54 GPa and bending strength in average 27.16 MPa.
