A lot of methods exist for the diagnostics of synchronous generators and diesel engine installations. One of these methods is the diagnostics with the help of currents and voltages spectrum analysis. The spectral composition of the output currents and voltages is influenced by technical condition of the synchronous generator - wear of bearing units, short-circuit of some turns of windings, etc. Such approach to the monitoring of the electro-mechanical "diesel-generator" system gives an opportunity to discover faults in the primary motor - diesel, non-uniformity of the operating process in its cylinders, and in the synchronous generator itself. This method of technical diagnostics does not require a deep interference into the diesel system and generator scheme, and can be applied without breaking of the operation of the installation. Mathematical modelling of the diesel-generator system was realised with the help of special software. The software realises the mathematical modelling of diesel engine, generator and provides the dynamic balance of the system. A ship diesel-generator has been taken for the experimental investigations.
