We report on a flexible signal slicing technique, which allows transmission of high-bandwidth signals via low bandwidth electrical and opto-electrical equipment. The presented signal slicing technique is highly scalable in terms of bandwidth, which is determined by the number of slices used and line code of initial electrical data signal. Performance of scalable line-code independent sliceable transceiver for 1 Gbit/s non-return to zero (NRZ) and duobinary encoded signals is presented in this paper. Results of experimental transmission show error free signal recovery by using post forward error correction with 7% overhead for both realized transmission setups and transmission line length of up to 40 km.
