The research proposes a certification procedure for the equipment of freight railway cars based on innovative technologies, such as microprocessor-based systems, wireless sensors with autonomous power sources, satellite navigation systems and wireless data communication. Regarded certification procedure takes into account the requirements of the various railway standards for safety, electromagnetic compatibility of equipment, etc., and allows simplifying and accelerating the preparation of equipment for certification based on the reuse of various components. The current research includes the experience of the Riga Technical University in the testing and preparation for the certification of the equipment of railway wagons for real time localization and monitoring designed for the conditions of Latvian Railways.
