Advantages of FTIR-DRIFT Sampling in Calcium Phosphate Research
19th International Scientific Conference "EcoBalt 2014": Book of Abstracts 2014
Agnese Brangule, Kārlis-Agris Gross

The FTIR diffuse reflectance induced reflection (FTIR-DRIFT) is commonly used in chemistry to analyze powdered and solid samples. When samples are penetrated with an IR beam, there are two types of reflected energy generated, specular and diffuse reflectance. The FTIR-DRIFT sample preparation technique avoids the need for pelleting with KBr in hydraulic press. This method allows fast measurement of powdered samples and rough surfaces and is less destructive for archaeological human bone materials.
