Characterization of Calcium Phosphates with Photoacoustic Spectrometry
Abstracts of the Riga Technical University 56th International Scientific Conference 2015
Agnese Brangule, Kārlis-Agris Gross

The photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) has many applications in different fields of research and industry. PA spectroscopy is a form of spectroscopy, which uses both - light and sound and is based on the absorption of electromagnetic radiation by analyte molecules (Figure1). In 1997, Rehman and Bonfield were the first to study the structure of carbonated apatite with the FTIR PAS. They concluded that PAS provides a sensitive, nondestructive and fast means of analyzing synthesized apatites, after an analysis of hydroxyapatite and carbonated hydroxyapatite. The aim of this study is to develop PA spectroscopy method for the investigation of bands in the υ2 CO3, υ3 CO3 band region for synthetic amorphous calcium apatite (ACP), poorly crystalline apatite and crystalline apatite and υ3 CO3 and amide band in archeological human bone.
