Marina Platonova, Larisa Iļinska

The present volume contains papers contributed to the 2nd International Scientific Conference “Meaning in Translation: Illusion of Precision” (MTIP2016) organized by the Institute of Applied Linguistics of the Faculty of E-Learning Technologies and Humanities, Riga Technical University and held in Riga on 11 to 13 May, 2016. The conference is part of research platform we implement at Riga Technical University to pursue scientific excellence and establish a sound cooperation with prominent scientific communities and recognized international network of academic and research institutions. The MTIP2016 conference was organized to bring together linguists, terminologists, researchers, translators, language policy makers, academic staff and students to establish a platform for dynamic and constructive debate, networking and research initiation. The diversity of themes covered in the papers contributes to exploiting the virtuous and synergic linkage between different theoretical findings and their empirical reflections addressing the issues of terminology standardization and harmonization; pragmatic, semantic and grammatical aspects of meaning in translation; translation of legal, literary, poetic, promotional, scientific and technical texts. Both theoretical and experience-based papers are grouped into seven chapters: 1. MEANING REPRESENTATION 2. DECODING TERMINOLOGY 3. TEXT. TRANSLATION PRACTICE 4. INTERPRETING CHALLENGES 5. TRANSLATING LITERARY WORKS 6. LITERARY HERITAGE AND CULTURAL IDENTITY 7. E-LEARNING AND PEDAGOGY
