The attention paid to sustainability and sustainable development has recently grown rapidly. Although there are numerous different definitions of sustainability, most of them have major elements in common - basic idea of sustainability focuses on interaction between environmental, social and economic aspects. All three values are linked and therefore affect each other. In order to conduct an evaluation, quantitative indicators can be used - the result of evaluation point towards successful outcomes and conclusions for policy. In the concept of sustainable development, indicators have an important role because they can indicate the relevant area of an issue in a timely manner and, based on the outcome, they can help to determine what needs to be done to achieve a goal. The aim of this paper is to determine indicators for the evaluation of a situation within the energy sector, paying particular attention to the heating sector. The paper presents an indicator framework and calculation methods.
