City development in the 20th century has resulted in extension of the semantic boundaries of urban centers, while public open space within the medieval cores still maintain attractivity. Increasing interest to cultural history and easy travel options result in growing number of visitors in historical sites. In order to increase awareness in all the groups of users of urban environment up-to-date digital technologies take significant place. Recently several digital online tools have been developed in Riga, the capital city of Latvia and UNESCO World Heritage Site, to help various groups of users to be informed of the city and to promote active exchange of information. The study summarizes the needs of the users of up-to-date urban environment and analyzes their correspondence to the historical spatial system. Digital tools allowing different groups of users to better understand and use the urban environment are characterized.
