Mapping Individually Designed Soviet Housing between 1945-1990 in Riga, Latvia
Metamorphosis. The Continuity of Change: 15th International DOCOMOMO Conference Proceedings 2018
Līva Garkāje

Individually designed housing (in Russian: Индивидуальные проекты жилых домов) was a phenomenon of post-war modernist housing architecture (1945 1990) in the Soviet Union. It was comparatively rare, diverse and experimental in nature, and usually carefully placed in its urban context. This poster reflects on research that was carried out to define, map, and analyse the architecture of individually designed Soviet housing in Latvia by introducing previously rarely researched Soviet housing typology and providing arguments for the architectural and cultural heritage value of individually designed Soviet housing to encourage the addition of the most valuable examples to heritage lists.
