The electrification of urban infrastructure, and in particular households, has been approved as one of the effective decarbonization measures. Reducing CO2 emissions has become a requirement of the time and is also considered by each country separately within the existing capabilities. In order to identify the most acceptable solution for Latvia on this issue, we calculated 6 scenarios of energy savings when gas stoves were substituted with electric and induction ones. Additionally, the costs of electrifying stoves vs cars for Latvian households was compared. Technical assessment of decarbonization potential revealed that the most adaptive way for CO2 reduction in households is to concentrate efforts first on electrification of stoves in Latvian kitchens; and most preferable first step – to begin with equipment that uses LPG. This helps to implement NECP requirements concerning household sector decarbonization in the most effective and frugal way.
