Investigation of Modular Motor for Wheelchair Application

This presentation continues an idea introduced in [1] and [2] of new modification of low-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for wheelchair application. In a difference from average PMSMs our proposed modification is designed with a modular stator which consists of 6 removable segment-shaped elements. That kind of construction allows user to change the number of segment-shaped elements according to user’s weight. In the same time, it allows to reduce the power of the motor and its costs when not necessary to use full power of the motor. In this presentation a brief description of proposed motor modification is given as well as further improvement possibilities of particular machine.
