When designing the Homopolar Inductor Alternator (HIA), typically a tooth zone model is used. The tooth zone model is built based on a tooth zone sweep. Such approach ignores the influence of the real shape of the rotor slot, the curvilinearity of the top surface of the rotor and stator teeth, as well as the impact of the minimum magnetic conductivity of the rotor slot on the value of the magnetic conductivity of the tooth zone of the HIA, and, consequently, on the magnitude and sinusoidality of the EMF. This article is devoted to assessing the influence of these factors on the calculation results at the HIA design stage when the tooth zone sweep is used.
