This paper is focused on the issues of the experimental validation of motion sensors for street lighting. Three motion sensors are considered as appropriate for street lighting applications in the scope of this work: microwave radar sensor, short-range PIR sensor, and long-range PIR sensor. The considerations on the experimental validation, the experimental setup description, and the results of the initial tests are given in the paper. The importance of the initial testing with the simulated conditions near to the real is highlighted for the validation of this kind of system. A discussion on the results and the proposals for sensor improvements based on these initial experiments are summarized at the end of the work.
