Radio coverage planning is a vital process in the design of cellular mobile communication systems. One of the main objectives of cellular network planning is to achieve uniform coverage of the target area while maintaining a high quality of service and minimizing the overall power consumption of telecommunication equipment. In order to obtain the optimal prediction of the coverage area for the 5G mobile network, proper radio propagation models must be used. To achieve high accuracy, theoretical models are enhanced and tuned using the results of practical experiments and drive tests. While lower bands of 5G NR mostly utilize the same frequencies as in the previous generations of mobile communication standards, some of the higher frequency ranges have not been used before. Therefore, new radio wave propagation modeling and prediction methods are currently being researched and developed to cover the new frequency bands. This work provides the classification of such mathematical models for predicting the path loss of UHF and SHF radio waves in 5G cellular mobile networks. Furthermore, possible scenarios of utilizing the observed models for railway transport applications are considered.
