Error Analysis and Correction Techniques for PPM Communication Links with Jitter and Clock Drift

This paper addresses two significant challenges associated with high-speed data transmission using pulse position modulation (PPM): systematic errors caused by clock drift and random errors resulting from signal jitter. We present a comprehensive theoretical framework that encompasses the error distribution and causal analysis of PPM links, along with algorithms for error correction. To address systematic errors, we introduce an original algorithm, while for combating random errors, we evaluate the effectiveness of forward error correction (FEC). We derive precise bit error ratio (BER) curves for various combinations of the proposed error correction methods through simulations based on device measurements. Our results highlight the practical significance of the proposed solutions, demonstrating their efficacy in real-world scenarios.
