Overhead catenary-connected electric public transport vehicles might be equipped with mobile energy storage systems to store the recovered braking energy that can be used during the next acceleration. Sometimes mobile supercapacitor storage systems might need to be recharged from the catenary before transport motion starting if they are discharged. The optimal charging options are constant-current charging and/or constant-power charging, as in both cases it is possible to plan the charging by calculating the required charging current or power depending on the chosen charging time. Therefore, this paper investigates and compares the efficiency of the mentioned charging methods in the case of mobile supercapacitor storage system for a stationary trolleybus, considering transmission and other losses.
