Analysis of the JSON Web Certificate Proposal
2025 IEEE 12th Workshop on Advances in Information, Electronic and Electrical Engineering (AIEEE 2025): Proceedings 2025
Giacomo Leopizzi, Andrejs Romānovs

JSON Web Certificate (JWC) provides a URL-safe mechanism for binding a public key to an entity (such as an individual, organization, or device) through issuance by a trusted party. The certificate can contain claims similar to a JSON Web Token (JWT). The public key is encoded using the JSON Web Key (JWK) format. JWC leverages concepts from JSON Web Signature (JWS), ensuring the integrity and authenticity of the contained information. The paper explores JWC’s structure, use cases and its revocation mechanism.
