The benefits on free cross-border business operation provided by the EU Single market are often ignored by companies because of lack of information and little confidence in existing opportunities. An effective tool to improve the situation is creation of Points of single contacts (PSC) defined in the recently adopted Service directive – web-based structures, where service provides can get the information required for business performance in a market as well as electronically fulfil formalities and get the necessary authorisations without any personal presence. Member states are free to decide on how the PSC will be organised. After the examination of different alternatives and benchmarking of other states proposals, as well as taking into account the current situation in Latvia and desires of entrepreneurs, the authors came up with their vision on a sound PSC.
