Lighting System Design Challenges for Vertical Farming Containers: Part 1. Perspective from Electrical Design
2024 IEEE 65th Annual International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University, RTUCON 2024 - Proceedings 2024
Mārtiņš Marcinkēvičs, Ansis Avotiņš

The research deals with LED luminary design challenges, by introducing design steps, planning of light output, colour/spectrum, 'light recipe' or Far Red, Red, Green, Blue colour diode ratio - using LED chip manufacturer data and provided tools. Obtained simulation results were compared with measurement results, showing up to 50% differences in some cases. Plastic materials for luminary cover effect on light losses are measured and evaluated. Average illumination approach of overall lighting uniformity assessment is introduced, and evaluated, resulting in 29% less light amount as simulated in existing tools. Further also spectral deviation is analyzed and measurements results are described.
