Paper presents an in-depth analysis of scientific literature concerning model-based methods for conceptualizing problem environments, with a focus on education. Special attention is given to research on the development of conceptual models that support repositories of automated graded tasks and tests for measuring students' numeracy and literacy skills. The analysis identifies dominant modeling paradigms, evaluates their applicability in educational contexts, and highlights gaps and opportunities for further research. The findings indicate a growing interest in ontological, process-based, and data-driven modeling approaches that enable the integration of assessment systems with learning analytics tools.
