Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on the Management of Technological Changes 2007
Dagmāra Prīberga

The list of nonmaterial cultural values is formed in Latvia in accordance with UNESCO convention (from 20.04.2006.) about the cultural heritage. Forming the list it is very important to study the habitat and uniqueness of different crafts in Latvia. From 1993 till 2005 the various polls of inhabitants and experts were done, searched special and widely known literature, iconographic material – the copies of paintings and the drawings of contemporaries, the articles of folk art, private archives, as well as, used the regularities of empiric and theoretical knowledge. The most significant are material memorials from collections of the Latvian Historical Museum, the Museum of History and Shipbuilding of Riga, Riga’s house-museum “Mercendofa names”, the Local History and Art Museum of Madona, Museum of History and Art of Aizkraukle and Cesis, the Museum of Rundall Castle and textile collections of the branch of the Museum of Rundall Castle “The crypts of dukes of Kurzeme”. After collecting knowledge about laces and lace handicrafts a selection, a study of technology, a classification system and descriptions of objects for a data basis of laces used and produced in Latvia in different ages has been made with one objective – to open a museum and private collections for exhibition and scientific research.
