Failure model with two types of failures is considered: initial and terminal failures. Initial failures occur according to a Poisson flow and then degenerate into terminal failures. The rate of a Poisson flow and degeneration time distribution are unknown, but two sample populations are available: the sample of intervals between initial failures and the sample of degeneration times. The aim is to estimate the expectation and the distribution of the number of failures at a time instant t. We consider plug-in and resampling estimators of above mentioned characteristics. The expectations and variances of the suggested estimators are investigated. The numerical examples show that resampling estimator has some advantages.
