Development of e-learning software as any other software requires adequate testing as an important task of quality assurance. In adaptable e-learning systems course material presented to a student can be constructed dynamically based on student model. Knowledge control can also be adaptable to student’s specialty, educational programme, age, psychological characteristics. Such adaptable nature of e-learning systems implies increased complexity of testing required to validate the software. As number of possible test cases is large, test automation can significantly improve testing efficiency. This paper discusses applicability of test automation to testing different features of adaptable e-learning software. Data-driven automated tests are highlighted as means of time-efficient test coverage improvement. Some test automation strategies are overviewed and their effectiveness is evaluated.
