Long Term National Development Indicators for the Measurement of Socio-Economic Development in Latvia
Topical Issues of Suboil Usage: International Forum-Competition of Young Researchers. Part II 2010
Alise Vītola, Zintis Hermansons

Taking into account the tendencies and recommendations in the field of national performance measurement, the objective of this paper is to propose an integrated set of long-term national development performance indicators for Latvia with an aim to promote performance-based socio-economic development planning, monitoring and evaluation. These indicators should serve as the basis for defining performance indicators in subordinated sectoral and territorial development policies. Such unified performance indicator system would significantly increase the quality of strategic planning in public administration. Moreover it would raise the quality of public administration in general because the actions of public institutions could be related to quantified policy objectives and results thus creating preconditions for an effective performance-based budget planning in Latvia.
