Model Driven Architecture (MDA) is a software design approach by Object Management Group (OMG) aimed for the development of software systems through the modeling activities and model transformations. OMG proposes no specific methodology for using MDA, stating that it can fit almost any existing software development process. Authors of this paper proposed an approach for transforming a model for “traditional” software development process to the model-driven. The technologies required for such transformation are supposed to be also MDA-compliant: SPEM v.2.0 notation should be used to describe current software development process within chosen organization. This SPEM model can be transformed with a help of Query/View/Transformation (QVT) language, so that target SPEM model could correspond to the model-driven development process. The practical validation of such approach was also performed in one of the Latvian IT companies. Proposed approach and results of this validation are described in this paper.
