Present work relates to the field of biotextile materials; particularly it describes a medical sieve which is used in medicine e.g. for hernia treatment. Goal of the project is the elaboration of medical sieve structure that would prevent organism tissues from sticking together with the sieve. To fabricate such sieve polypropylene textile threads were used (13 Tex) with small holes which size (diameter – 5-8 m) is comparable with capillaries diameter size. The presence of such holes ensured tissue ingrowth in a sieve, thus promoting better attachment. In order to create said holes, textile threads were pierced with laser beam. It is also possible to use electron or ion beams. To ensure better biocompatibilities of the material, obtained fibers were impregnated with 5% extract of juniper with is known to possess bactericide properties.
