On the Deformation Mechanism in the Shear Zone in Conventional Axisymmetric Shearing when There is Concurrent Crack Growth over the Section Being Cut
The 14th International Conference on Material Forming (ESAFORM 2011): Conference Proceedings 2011
Jānis Kandis, Henry Valberg, Wenbin Wu

Experiments and FEA is applied to show that the shear zone that extends between the upper and the lower shearing edge moves in the lateral direction when cracking start to appear, after part of the cross-section has been cut by shearing. This phenomenon impairs a distinctive influence on the load-stroke curve measured in shearing, and explains why the curve will have a rather flat tail end before the end of the cut. It is discussed what should be considered as a optimum tool geometry in shearing if one should arrive at the finest possible cut surface after end of shearing.
