Dagmāra Prīberga

For the first time in the Latvian textile industry a scientifically substantiated openwork textile handicrafts classification systems has been developed and it integrates, analyzes and describes the types of lace which belong to the ancient lace handicraft technology group. The study includes 116 first published lace image artefacts found in museum textile stocks, exhibitions and private collections with descriptions that have been created / expanded. 86 of the first time publication artefacts together with the corresponding text information have been aggregated in a monograph / album "Ancient Lace in Latvia"; it is considered as the first lace-only -targeted edition in Latvia, which provides an insight into the lace wearing and manufacturing tradition up and down periods, as well as their causes. When structuring and classifying, the systematized information and the set up e-database allows different levels of users, both in Latvia and abroad, to obtain the necessary information on various research directions and incorporate into a single European information space in the future. The developed and approved methodology can serve as a basis for structuring other textile groups to facilitate the creation of data management systems, thus reducing the necessary time and other resource consumption to create an e-database.
